Dortmund to host conference on nature-based solutions for urban regeneration

5 September 2018

Cities, civil society organisations, and interested individuals are invited to attend a conference on nature-based solutions for urban regeneration, set to take place 25-26 September in Dortmund (Germany).

The conference, which aims to introduce the topic of nature-based solutions for urban regeneration to the wider public, will include presentations and panel discussions on nature-based solutions in practice and the role of local governments.

During the conference Dortmund (Germany), Turin (Italy), Ningbo (China), and ICLEI Member Zagreb (Croatia), will present their Living Labs, the post-industrial parts of those cities, which are being regenerated through nature-based solutions.

The conference also offers the opportunity for all participants to visit the Dortmund Living Lab and other green regeneration projects in the city, including the Hansa coking plant.

The conference, which is organised by the proGIreg project, will kick-off the innovative green regeneration project.

The proGIreg project, which is led by the RWTH Aachen University, aims to build collaboration between cities across Europe and in China, which are developing nature-based solutions together with local citizens, civil society, research institutions, local governments and the private sector, to improve the long-term health and well-being of people living in post-industrial areas.

The nature-based solutions range from introducing green roofs and vertical gardens for increased biodiversity, to urban gardening and aquaponics for local community-based food production.
